My version of a classic meatball recipe is rife with flavour, and these beef meatballs have a few simple ingredients you might already have in your cupboard and fridge. Some days call for a warm, hearty meal to satisfy your soul.

As this is a simple meatball recipe, I am using a store-purchased jar of tomato pasta sauce. You could always make your own or use a passata instead. Meatballs are great with pasta, straight in a bowl with some grated cheese or even in a meatball sub.

So let’s get on with the beef meatballs recipe:

  • Peel and dice 1 medium brown onion
  • In a large bowl, add:
  • Diced brown onion
  • 500 grams of beef mince
  • 200 grams of sausage mince (optional)
  • 2 tbsp of dried mixed herbs
  • 2 tbsp of stock powder of choice (I used chicken)
  • 1 tsp garlic, crushed (add more if you enjoy garlic)
  • 75 grams of tomato paste
  • Pepper to taste

Use your hands to mix the meatball mixture until combined. (I wear gloves so the mixture doesn’t stick to my hands)

  • In a pan or foil tray:
  • 500 gram jar of tomato pasta sauce
  • Add 100 mls of water to the jar and swirl and pour in the pan.
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C or 360°F
  • Roll roughly a level tablespoon of the meatball mixture in a circular motion to form a ball.
  • Place the meatballs in the tray
  • Meatballs should look like this
  • Cover with Aluminum foil
  • Place in the oven for 40 minutes

Once cooked, let the meatballs rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!
